Her Thread, Our Story: An Amhara Mother’s Day Tribute

This Mother’s Day, Amhara invites you into a story woven delicately across generations. A story not stitched in fabric or thread alone, but in the quiet power of presence, in the everyday ways a mother gives, teaches and leads.

We inherit more than clothes—we inherit her essence. Her way of loving, showing up, and moving through the world. With every thread of Chikankari, we wear more than fabric. We wear her values. Her resilience. Her softness. Her intention.

In Her Thread, Our Story, we celebrate the quiet inheritance passed from mother to daughter, and how it’s reimagined in the everyday lives of women today. We sat down with three remarkable mother-daughter duos, each with their own story of legacy and love : stitched with grace, worn with strength.

Mehak Jamal & Surabhi Altekar Jamal

Author and filmmaker Mehak Jamal reflected on how creativity has been one of her mother’s most meaningful gifts. “Some of it is attributed to seeing her create all of those stories when I was younger, ” Mehak shared. Her mother, Surabhi, a teacher, spoke about how proud she is of Mehak’s clarity and strength— “She knows her mind, and she knows how to set boundaries. That's something at this young age if you know that is really incredible”.

Shikha Chaudhary & Rashmi Singh

Defence officer Shikha Chaudhary shared how her mother’s confidence shaped her own sense of self. Her mother, Rashmi Singh, a homemaker, gently added, “Shikha is strong, but what makes me proud is how deeply caring and thoughtful she is, not just with me, but with everyone around her.”

Aakanksha Ghatpande Manan & Jyoti Ghatpande

Chef and entrepreneur Aakanksha Ghatpande Manan spoke of growing up watching her mother, Jyoti Ghatpande, lead life on her own terms. “She’s always been independent, and continues to do so. I love to follow that thing that she’s taught me, ” Aakanksha said. Her mother smiled as she spoke of her daughter’s warmth: “Kindness. Be kind to everybody. That is what I’ve taught her and she follows that”.

At Amhara, we believe Chikankari is more than embroidery—it’s emotion. Its delicate weave holds centuries of memory, and in it, the poise and patience of women who came before us.

This Mother’s Day, we honor the invisible threads that bind us to them. The ones that hold us up. The ones we now carry forward, in our own way.

This Mother’s Day, wear what she stood for #HerThreadOurStory
