Amhara, Offline: Two Cities, Many Conversations
Amhara StoriesFor a brand that began online, there is something quite special about watching it come to life in a room.
You see the clothes differently.
You see the embroidery up close. You notice the textures. You watch someone run their hands over a fabric, try on a silhouette, look at themselves in the mirror and slowly make up their mind.
Most importantly, you meet the people who have, until then, existed behind a screen.
This July, Amhara travelled to Bangalore.
And in August, we found ourselves in Hyderabad.
Two cities. Two different spaces. Two very different days. But the same feeling stayed with us — there is nothing quite like meeting our community in person.
Bangalore, in July
Bangalore was our first stop.
We arrived with our collection, our racks, our little details, and the familiar excitement that comes with putting everything together for the first time in a new city.
But once the doors opened, it became less about the clothes and more about the conversations around them.
People came by curious about Amhara and about Chikankari. Some had seen us online before. Some were discovering us for the first time.
There were conversations about fabrics, fits, embroidery and colours. There were people who wanted to know more about where the pieces were made. And then there were those lovely, unexpected conversations that have very little to do with shopping at all.
It reminded us that clothing is rarely just about clothing.
It is about how something feels when you put it on. Whether you can imagine wearing it to work, to lunch, on a holiday or on an ordinary Sunday.
It is about seeing a piece in person and suddenly understanding it in a way a photograph cannot quite capture.
Hyderabad, in August
A month later, we were in Hyderabad.
By then, we knew a little more about what to expect. But the experience still surprised us. There is a certain warmth to meeting people who have followed Amhara online and finally get to see the pieces in person.
A familiar name suddenly has a face. A message becomes a conversation. A customer becomes someone you can actually meet, dress and listen to. And that is perhaps what we enjoyed most about being offline — listening.
To what people loved. To what they noticed. To what they wanted more of. To how they imagined wearing the pieces. Every conversation gives us something to take back with us.
From screen to real life
Building Amhara online has allowed us to reach people across cities and homes we may never have otherwise entered. But being offline reminded us why we started in the first place.
We have always wanted Chikankari to feel less distant. Less reserved for occasions. More natural. More contemporary. More a part of everyday life. And there is no better way to understand whether we are doing that than to see someone actually wear it.
A shirt paired with jeans.
A dress styled in a way we hadn't imagined.
Someone choosing a colour we didn't expect.
A piece that looks completely different on a real person than it did on our website.
These moments are small, but they stay with us.
Taking Amhara forward
Bangalore and Hyderabad were more than two pop-ups. They were little milestones in Amhara's journey from an idea on a screen to a brand with a growing community around it.
We are still a young brand. We are still learning, experimenting and figuring things out as we go. But every time we step outside the digital world and meet you in person, the journey feels a little more real.
So, to everyone who stopped by in Bangalore, to everyone who came to see us in Hyderabad, to those who tried something on, asked questions, shared feedback, told us how they would wear it, or simply stopped to say hello — thank you.
For being curious. For making space for Amhara in your wardrobes.
And for reminding us that the best part of building a brand is, ultimately, the people you meet along the way. Here’s to more cities, more conversations and many more occasions to meet offline.
Until then, we’ll see you online!
